I was casually scrolling through various subreddits recently, when I came across a particularly intriguing topic in one of them: Semi-Inflatable Sex Dolls. I must admit, I was quite taken aback upon reading it – what on earth has become of the world?! I mean, I know dolls aren’t new by any means, but these things seemed to be next level! I was curious, but I also couldn’t help but feel a weird sense of foreboding at the same time.
Anyhow, I decided to click the link and take a look. First off, the dolls themselves were actually really realistic – looking something akin to an anatomically correct Barbie, only with a gaping internal cavity. This apparently made them more comfortable to use, as their pliability meant that they could be molded more easily.
Of course, there were also accessories to go along with them – I won’t go into details here, but needless to say there was plenty to choose from. This, I thought, must have been why the subreddit was so popular – people obviously felt comfortable and safe in this arena because of the anonymity combined with the freedom to experiment and explore without judgement or fear.
But then I started reading some of the comments, and my opinion quickly changed. Whilst some of them were quite humorous and even touching, others simply made me cringe in shock and bafflement. From proud declarations of newfound “sexual freedom” to requests for advice on how to use the dolls “properly”, I felt like I had stepped into a strange and twisted parallel universe.
I think at that moment, I realized why this topic was so popular – people can find solace in anonymity, especially when it comes to something as personal and potentially taboo as sex dolls. As strange as it may seem, this subreddit has actually given people the opportunity to connect and share their experiences safely and without judgement.
In some ways, it’s a reminder that no matter how strange or unusual something may seem from the outside, you can never truly understand what someone else is going through. And sometimes, despite our best attempts, even judging them can’t prevent them from going through it.
I then read about the different stories of people using the dolls, and the most common themes that seemed to crop up. Most of these tales seemed to fall under two categories – those who had tried it out of curiosity, and those who actually felt a genuine sense of comfort or attachment from using them. The former tended to be highly experimental stories, whilst the latter was often about finding a safe, non-judgmental space for learning and exploring.
I also read about some of the different motivations behind using the dolls – some people were looking for companionship, others for sexual gratification, some to experiment without the risk of facing judgement, and others for a more long-term relationship.
It got me thinking about the concept of a sex doll and my own opinion on it. As uncomfortable as the topic might make me feel, I can understand why it could appeal to some – it allows people to express themselves and their desires in a safe and discreet manner, and without the stigma that unfortunately tends to be attached to enjoying sex in any capacity. And if that helps some people find contentment, then I have nothing against it.
Of course, it is a grey area, and like most things in life, there is a clear case to be made for both sides of the argument. The most important thing to remember, however, is that whatever path people choose to take, they should do so with understanding and sex dolls open-mindedness – and without judgement or prejudice.
